Hakan Sandberg

Hakan Sandberg

Hakan Sandberg started Itzinya 5 years ago with the aim of providing opportunities for job creation in larger cities in the developing world. It is connected to an international network of companies that want to make a difference. They are still in early days with an ongoing business in Serbia and new businesses likely to start this year in Macedonia and Nigeria. The underlying issue that Itzinya targets is that of global youth unemployment. According to EOCD figures and a survey from the World Bank, there are almost 300m 15-24 year olds globally, that are neither employed nor in education or training. They form the ”Generation jobless” and are a “bomb ready to detonate.”

Hakan also leads Itzinya: Global Startup Academies whose aim is to turn young ”job seekers” , age 18-30, into ”job creators”. The focus is on finding young entrepreneurs with drive. The Academy gives them practical insight into key components of the start-up process. It also incubates their budding companies and supports them as they establish and grow them into employers of other young job seekers. Itzinya is a decentralized organization using a licensing paradigm. All the work is done locally and the local itzinya center is a non-profit or an enterprise owned by those who run it.
